I wrote this for a student TV show at USC. The character who sings this, the finale of the episode, has just discovered her boyfriend is gay. The lyrics were written by the screenwriter, with minor fixes by me. This is the final instrumental mix, but with the temp vocal tracks, since the actors were a little shakey.

So that’s the secret, The whispered thoughts, The shadows in his eyes. Who’d have thought that this would be the way a good thing dies? Should I have known? Did I? I can't remember ever listening inside. Where was my ambition, my spunk, my sense of pride? But now my understanding’s shifted, A burden finally lifted, And I see the path before me, clear and wide. Why I ever thought I’d need a man to get me there, To help me climb the ladder, I don’t know. I’ve got the talent, got the will. Just like he used me, I used Bill, But no more! Here I come, world! Don’t look the other way. Here I come, world! And I’ve got just one thing to say: I’m gonna do it, gonna make it, That glass ceiling, gonna break it, Just one fearless girl, alone against the world! Cut away the chains and free me, Crystal Jewel the face of TV! Here we come, world! Don't look the other way. Here we come, world, And we’ve got just one thing to say: We’re gonna do it, gonna make it, We’ve come too far now to forsake it, Fearless warriors out to conquer all our dreams. You can’t stop us, you can’t shake us; World, open up your arms and take us! Are you ready, world? Here we come!
